Springing Into Action
|
|
The people who try to do something and fail are infinitely
better than those who try to do nothing and succeed. - Lloyd Jones
Dear Friends,
I hope that this month’s newsletter finds
you well!
So far this year I’ve talked a lot about
setting goals and how much of an effect goals can have on your life.
However, goal setting can only do so much - at some point you have to
start taking action and working toward those goals, so that’s what I’d
like to talk to you about this month!
Eat The Frog…
Brian Tracy, the well known motivational
speaker, uses this Eat the Frog…Then the Elephant analogy when he talks
about achieving goals. What does he mean by that? What he’s saying is
that you should get the toughest part of your day out of the way first
thing. So, if your goal has something to do with getting into shape then
you should do whatever you can to start your day with your workout.
Whatever it is that is your hardest part
of the day or the thin g that blocks you from your goal, get that thing
out of the way during the first part of the day!
Once you’ve eaten the frog then you can
start working on the Elephant.
|
|
Springing Into Action - 2
|
|
…Then The Elephant
When he talks about the elephant he’s
talking about all the rest of the things you have to do during the course
of your day. Of course we all know how to eat the elephant…one bite at a
time.
Many times people are simply overwhelmed
by how much they have to accomplish to achieve their goals. It’s always
best to take the step by step approach.
Just like you have to build a house one
brick at a time, you have to accomplish your goals in a step by step
manner. Don’t let yourself get frustrated by the fact that it’s a
slow process. Just concentrate on eating
the frog and then the elephant and you’ll have a great day and be on your
way to accomplishing your goals!
I have one more exercise that I want you
to do that will help you greatly in accomplishing a goal and that will
also help you get started right now!
Ask yourself this question “What would I
like to accomplish in the next 90 days?”
Ninety days is an excellent ben chmark.
It’s not so long that you’ll lose focus and it’s not so short a time that
you can’t realistically make a major change in your life.
|
|
Springing Into Action - 3
|
|
Now you need to get out a pen and a piece
of paper. Write down what things are in your life that you would like to
get rid of for the next 90 days.
Next write down all of the things you’d
like to add to your life in the next 90 days.
Okay now you have to choose one thing off
of your two lists. You only get to choose one! It’s great to have
multiple goals but to get you to act now it’s best to have one clear
goal.
Now write that one thing down and put it
somewhere you are sure to read it everyday.
Think of someone who has already
accomplished whatever your goal is. It doesn’t have to be someone you
know, it can be anyone at all (a business person, an actor, a teacher…).
The key thing is that success always leaves a trail. Find a model and
you’ll find that trail.
Now write down all the action steps you
need to take to follow your blueprint to success. This will help you take
small steps and be consistent.
Once you’ve accomplished this goal ma ke
sure you keep your momentum going! Keep doing what’s been working for you
so you don’t back slide.
|
|
Springing Into Action - 4
|
|
Whatever your goal is you should do
something today in anticipation of the completion of that goal. So if
your goal was to lose some weight go shopping today and buy at least one
article of clothing that will fit you after you’ve lost the weight you
want. If your goal was to save a certain amount of money make out the
deposit slip today for whatever amount it is that you want to save…you
get the idea.
When the 90 days are up and you’ve done
what you set out to do - celebrate! Do something special for you as a
reward - behavior that’s rewarded is easier to repeat!
Random Facts I Came Across on the Internet
Often times when I write the newsletter I
have to do some research (to make it seem like I know what I’m talking
about!) and I’m always amazed at the interesting facts that I run across
during my trips to cyberspace. Here are a few that caught my eye recently
(I have no idea if some of these facts are actually true. Remember, I got
them off of the internet! ):
During his lifetime, Herman Melville's
Moby Dick sold only 50 copies.
Hummingbirds can't walk.
On Sunday, it is illegal to sell
cornflakes in Columbus, Ohio.

Success Story of the Month - One Mother's Story
|
|
Last Mother’s Day,
June was pouring over her family photo albums, reminiscing about the
years gone by and she made a semi-startling discovery - in all of the
photos she rarely, if ever, smiled.
In picture after picture she was either
completely solemn or she had a vague smile with her mouth completely
closed. She called the office soon after that and told me that she was
tired of “being embarrassed to smile” and she asked if I could help her.
I told her “of course we can help!” but I was a bit curious about why it
was that she waited so long to come in and see us about it.
She told me that she was worried about the
standard things - cost, pain, whether or not there was anything that
could be done. I let her know that I understood her concerns but I was
absolutely sure we could help her have the smile of her dreams and we
could relieve her worries as well.
Once she came into the office we gave her
a free “Smile Makeover Consultation” and we went over pictures of
patients that I had worked on that had a similar case to her own. It was
amazing how her face lit up when she saw the before and after pictures of
people that we had helped who were just like her.

Success Story of the Month - One Mother's Story Pt 2
|
|
After her consultation we discussed using
Da Vinci™ porcelain veneers to improve the appearance of her smile. After
just two visits she was raving about her new smile!
She told me that she went home and looked
back at those old photos again and she felt like throwing them all away.
The only thing she was regretting was waiting so long to come in.
She told me that the first time she went
out with her friends she showed off her smile and her friends kept asking
her if she had lost weight or where she went on vacation to get so tan.
The improvements we made seemed subtle to
everyone else but they were dramatic to June! She called and thanked me
for giving her more self-confidence. I let her know that she was more
than welcome!
If you feel any embarrassment about your
smile I’d love to invite you into the office for a free smile
consultation. It changed June’s life and it just might change yours too!

Patient Quiz!
Here's the question and the answer to last

Last Month’s Quiz Question!
A dozen Royals gathered round,
Entertained by two who clowned.
Each King there had servants ten,
Though none of them were also men.
The lowest servant sometimes might,
Defeat the King in a fair fight.
A weapon stout, a priceless jewel,
The beat of life, a farmer's tool.
What are we talking about here folks?
Answer: A deck of cards!
This Month’s Quiz Question!
You must use a gold chain to pay a worker
for seven days of service. The chain has seven links on it, and you agree
on a price of one link per day.
However, the worker will not work without
getting the day's pay up front, and you do not wish to give him more than
his due for the fear that he will take it and leave. Therefore, you
realize that you must cut some of the links on the chain.
What is the smallest number of links you
will need to cut, so that you can make sure that the worker receives one
link for every day that he works, but not more?
