If you have broken dentures, you might be tempted to try doing your own repairs. But even though it can be tempting, it is better to try to get a professional to do it. It will often take less time to get a good repair than if you tried to do it yourself because you can get overnight repairs. Doing it yourself can cause more problems than do good.
When a patient’s dentures break, the main goal should be to get them repaired as soon as possible. Professional denture repair can take as little time as a day. Dentists know that patients need to have the dentures repaired in a shorter period of time. Even if the dentures need to go to a lab for repairs, this might take only a day or so.
It is a good idea for patients to get professional repair. That way, the patient will have peace of mind that the repair will work properly. Choosing a professional to repair them will help the dentures to work properly after the repair has been done. If the denture does not work well, it cannot perform the function it was made for.
That includes eating and talking. Patients should remember that dentures may need to be replaced every seven years or so. That means once the dentures are reaching the end of their usable life, they may need more repairs. Patients should be prepared for this.
Depending on the break, different kinds of repair might be needed. Some common denture issues include having a broken tooth or the whole denture breaking. Sometimes, part of the acrylic base might crack. Or a piece may chip off.
One of the main reasons why a patient needs professional repair is to get a better fit. That will give the wearer a better quality of life. If the dentures break, the first step should be to call the dentist. It is better to avoid wearing broken dentures. The false teeth should be soaked to avoid drying them out. If the dentures dry out, then cracks might be more likely. All of the broken pieces should be brought to the appointment.
It can be tempting for patients to repair the teeth themselves. But trying to fix the dentures can cause more damage. For instance, too much glue may be used and prevent the piece from fitting properly. That might make the dentures unrepairable in some cases. Plus, not all of the glues used are healthy for the patient. Some might even dissolve in saliva and cause another denture break.
You do not want your dentures to have any more damage to them. It is a good idea to get them repaired by an experienced professional. If your dentures are broken, get an appointment to fix them. That way, you can get back to enjoying all of your favorite foods.
