How Many Visits Are Needed for a Zoom™ Teeth Whitening?

More patients are looking for cosmetic dental treatments than ever before, and Zoom teeth whitening has become a popular choice. This light-activated whitening treatment is done in a series of four sessions under the light. The patient often takes home custom whitening trays and a bleaching solution as well. The procedure helps to remove tooth stains and discoloration, and the custom trays help to maintain the whiter teeth. The length of time that results last varies for each person; whitening will need to be done more frequently for coffee and wine drinkers.

Zoom™ teeth whitening process

Zoom involves an in-office session followed by home whitening treatments. The patient gets a more favorable result when the doctor’s instructions are closely followed. Some patients may need alterations made to the bleaching process, but the basic steps remain the same.

In-office treatment

The initial Zoom teeth whitening is typically completed in one visit. At this appointment, the dentist or assistant retracts the patient’s lips and paints a protective barrier on the gums. The whitening gel is applied, and the Zoom light is attached. The timer is set for 15 minutes. After this, more whitening gel is applied and another 15-minute session begins.

In total, there are four 15-minute sessions; however, the appointment will take a little longer than an hour due to preparation and follow-up. Most patients have teeth that are several shades lighter when leaving the office after this visit.

Take-home treatment

Many times, a patient will have custom trays made so that Zoom™ teeth whitening results can be maintained at home. A mold is made of the patient’s teeth, and a clear retainer is fabricated. Special Zoom whitening gel is given to the patient with instructions on how often to use the solution at home. If the patient experiences sensitivity after the initial whitening session, they may want to postpone using the take-home gel until the sensitivity subsides.

Maintenance visits

The patient should follow a dentist’s recommendation for the frequency of whitening sessions. The patient can elect to do the treatment at set intervals, or it can be done before special events like weddings. If the patient is using the take-home kit consistently, they can stretch out the length of time between whitenings.

Patients will have longer-lasting results if dark drinks are avoided. Regular hygiene visits can also help keep a smile bright and healthy. When a patient decides to brighten the teeth again, an in-office session can be initiated or more at-home gel can be used in the custom trays.

Conclusion

Many people would like to change something about their smile, and often a whitening treatment is enough to make a big difference. For those considering this service, a consultation is needed to find out if it is recommended with the patient’s current dental health situation. Many patients find it to be a wonderful smile investment, and the confidence that comes with it can be life-changing.
