Three Tips for Extending the Life of Zoom Teeth Whitening

Zoom® teeth whitening drastically improves the color of your teeth by up to eight shades. It involves using a proprietary whitening gel and ultraviolet light to deliver effective whitening treatments that take no longer than an hour.

During the procedure, the Zoom teeth whitening gel is applied directly to the patient’s teeth, and ultraviolet light is used to speed up the reaction of the gel with stains on the patient’s teeth. The ultraviolet light is applied for three 15-minute intervals during the treatment.

Patients also get at-home whitening kits they can use to perform maintenance whitening treatments. These kits come with customized mouth trays that allow the patient to evenly and safely apply the whitening product.

Getting the most out of your Zoom teeth whitening treatment

Happy about your newly whitened teeth? Well, it is up to you to ensure they stay that way. Teeth are consistently bombarded with things that can stain them, like the coloring agents in foods like beets and beverages like coffee.

Here are some simple things patients can do to keep their teeth stain- and discoloration-free after whitening treatments:

1. Watch what you consume

The tannins in foods and beverages can cause massive discoloration to your teeth, especially when you consume these types of food regularly. Some of the worst culprits you should avoid include beets, pasta sauce, red wine, coffee, and dark sodas.

Patients should avoid any foods that leave their teeth discolored as much as possible to prevent permanent stains from forming on their teeth. Patients can also protect the color of their teeth by brushing after consuming such foods or, at the very least, vigorously rinsing their mouth with water for 30 seconds.

2. Practice good oral hygiene

Brushing twice a day and flossing once daily helps to prevent stains and discoloration from forming on teeth. It also keeps tartar accumulation on teeth to a minimum. Tartar is calcified plaque, and it gives teeth a yellow tint. It is also more prone to staining than natural teeth surfaces, so teeth covered with tartar will pick up stains and discoloration faster.

Using a whitening toothpaste or mouth rinse once or twice a week can also help to keep teeth white. These products should not be used daily since they contain abrasive ingredients that weaken enamel.

3. Get maintenance whitening treatments

The at-home whitening kits provided after Zoom teeth whitening treatments are made specifically for this. Regardless of how well you avoid things that can stain your teeth and clean, some new stains will develop over time. At-home whitening treatments are an effective way to get rid of noticeable stains that form on teeth. These treatments can be performed as needed from the comfort of your home. When that fails, it is time to head to a clinic for another round of Zoom teeth whitening.
